“You carry a garment, but for a shoe, it’s different: the shoe carries you, and therein lies all of the difficulty.” Robert Clergerie was fond of evoking this principle—which he credited to fellow footwear designer André Perugia—and it remains a touchstone of the French house, now led by creative director Roland Mouret. Among his latest creations is this striking almond-toed mule crafted in France of crocodile-embossed black calf leather. The backless, slip-on style is a play of lines, curves, and striking texture. Ensuring wear-all-day comfort are a stacked heel, smooth leather lining, lightly padded leather insole, and leather outsole.
